The main thing preventing most of us from de-cluttering is that it's usually very overwhelming. So here's a four step process for beginning the process.

1) Go through the house making a list of everything that needs clearing out. Mark it in order of priorities so you'll know exactly where you should begin.

2) Make an appointment with yourself and actually note it on your calendar.

3) Start small with just one drawer, shelf, etc. It shouldn't take more than an hour. When we try to do too much the first time it can be even more overwhelming, resulting in giving up in frustration halfway through the session. Also, don't forget to clean the area before replacing and organizing the contents.

4) When it's done, step back and savor it! You'll find that accomplishing this one small de-cluttering will motivate you to continue--doing more and more each session.
